自从楚灵王喜欢纤细的腰身后，朝中上下怨声不断，可又敢怒不敢言。大家为了保持“身材纤细，线段优美”而把饭当成“禁品”似的，每天才吃一小碗。整天饿得两眼昏花的大臣们还得忍受“腰带之苦”，勒得紧紧的腰带在腰上毫不留情地刻下了道道红痕。若是国君不在场，朝中必定哀声满院，叫苦连天。将士们看着自己渐渐消瘦的身体，无奈地摇着头……
“大王，臣每日节食，都快饿出病啦!若是他国来袭，臣儿们可没有兵力再去抵抗了。”一位将士鼓足了勇气上前劝谏。
“我又没叫你们节食，不过就是喜欢细腰罢了。吃的照吃，喝的照喝!无力抵抗与我何事?若是溃了，就罚!”楚王挥了挥手，叫那将士下去。
底下的大臣见了，暗暗叫苦，并下决心——吃饭照吃，让楚王看看不节食怎瘦腰。
